Web List View Background Color – Highlight Records by Condition
A long list of records all looks the same – nothing draws the eye to what matters. This module lets you set a background colour on a field in a list view based on a condition, so important rows stand out at a glance. It brings back the kind of conditional colouring the old tree-view colour and style attributes gave you.
What Does This Module Do?
This module lets you apply a background colour to a field in a list view based on a condition. In older Odoo, tree views supported colour and style attributes to visually flag rows, and this module brings that conditional-colouring capability to the list view: you define the rule, and matching records get the background colour you’ve chosen, so certain values or states are immediately visible in an otherwise uniform list.
Why Do You Need It?
A dense list of records is hard to scan – every row looks identical, so the ones that need attention don’t stand out. Whether it’s overdue items, high-value records, or anything in a particular status, users have to read carefully to pick them out, which is slow and easy to get wrong. Conditional background colour fixes that instantly: colour the field when a rule is met, and the important rows jump out visually. People can triage a list at a glance instead of reading every line, spotting exceptions and priorities in a second. It’s a small visual cue that makes busy list views far quicker and more reliable to work from.
When Should You Use This Module?
This module is for teams that work from list views and want important records to stand out by condition. It’s useful wherever a status, threshold, or category should be visually obvious – flagging overdue or urgent items, marking records above or below a value, or distinguishing states at a glance. Because colouring a list field by condition involves editing the view, it’s a feature your Odoo administrator or developer configures for the relevant list. If your users scan long lists and you want the ones that matter to catch the eye, this gives you that conditional highlighting.
How This Module Works in Practice
You define a condition and a background colour for a field in the list view – much as the old tree-view colour and style attributes worked. When a record meets the condition, its field is shown with that background colour; records that don’t match appear as normal. The result is a list where the rows you care about are visually distinct, so anyone looking at it can immediately see what stands out.
