Set / Import Product Image from URL – Load Images Straight from a Link

Odoo lets you import products from a CSV, but not their images – so you’re left downloading and re-uploading pictures one by one. This module adds an Image URL field: put a link in your import file (or on the product form), and Odoo pulls the image in for you automatically. Perfect for bulk imports and migrating a catalogue from an older system.

What Does This Module Do?

This module lets you set a product’s image from a URL instead of uploading an image file. It adds an ‘Image URL’ field to products, so you can point Odoo at where an image already lives online and have it loaded automatically. That works in two ways: on an individual product, enter the URL in the form view and save, and the image is set for you; and during a CSV import, add an ‘Image URL’ column to your file, map it to the Image URL field, and validate – Odoo pulls in every product’s image as it imports. Standard Odoo has no built-in way to import product images, and this module fills exactly that gap.

Why Do You Need It?

Bringing a product catalogue into Odoo is a common task – whether you’re onboarding for the first time or migrating from an older system – and Odoo’s import feature handles almost everything except images. Without a way to import them, you’re stuck adding pictures by hand: downloading each one, opening the product, uploading it, saving, and repeating that hundreds of times. It’s slow, tedious, and easy to get wrong. If your images already exist somewhere online – on your old site, a supplier’s catalogue, or a hosting service – it makes far more sense to reference them by URL and let Odoo fetch them. This module does that, turning image setup from a manual chore into part of the same import that loads your product data. It saves hours on any sizeable catalogue and makes migrations dramatically smoother.

When Should You Use This Module?

This module is for anyone loading products into Odoo whose images already exist at a web address. It’s ideal for businesses doing an initial bulk product import, for teams migrating a catalogue from an older system where images live at known URLs, and for anyone who’d rather reference an image by link than download and re-upload it. If you’re importing more than a handful of products with images, or setting up products whose pictures are already hosted online, this is exactly the tool for the job. It’s a lightweight module that plugs into Odoo’s standard import flow and product form, with nothing to configure.

How This Module Works in Practice

There’s no configuration and no technical knowledge required – just install it. For a bulk import, add an ‘Image URL’ column to your CSV, fill in each product’s image link, and run Odoo’s normal import, mapping that column to the Image URL field; when you validate and import, the images load automatically alongside the product data. For a single product, open its form, enter the image URL, and save – the image is set from the link straight away. Whether you’re importing thousands of products or fixing up one, the image comes straight from its URL with no download-and-upload in between.
