Maintenance Start / Stop – Track Time on Maintenance Work in One Click
Maintenance teams are hands-on and busy – and logging time is the first thing that gets forgotten. This module puts a simple Start and Stop button on every Maintenance Work order. Hit Start when work begins, Stop when it’s done, and a timesheet entry is created automatically. No more lost hours, no more end-of-day guesswork – just accurate maintenance time captured as the work happens.
What Does This Module Do?
By default, recording the time spent on a maintenance job in Odoo means entering timesheet details by hand. This module replaces that chore with a single click: Start and Stop buttons on the Maintenance Work order that turn time tracking into a two-tap action. When a technician begins work they press Start, a live timer counts the time spent, and when they press Stop a timesheet entry is created automatically – capturing the start time, stop time, and duration. It connects your Maintenance and Project workflows so the effort your team puts into upkeep is finally recorded without anyone filling in a timesheet manually.
Why Do You Need It?
Under a heavy workload, maintenance staff routinely forget to log their timesheets – and every unrecorded hour is lost visibility into how much time and effort your upkeep really takes. Manual time entry is not just tedious, it’s unreliable: people estimate after the fact, round inaccurately, or skip it entirely. That leaves managers without a true picture of maintenance effort, equipment servicing cost, or team capacity. This module removes the friction completely. Because tracking is just Start and Stop, technicians actually do it, and the timer records real elapsed time rather than a guess. To keep the data clean, a user can only run one maintenance job’s timer at a time – they must stop the current one before starting another – which prevents double-counting. The result is trustworthy maintenance-time data you can use for reporting, planning, and cost analysis.
When Should You Use This Module?
This module is for any team running Odoo Maintenance that needs to know how much time goes into each job. It’s ideal for maintenance departments tracking effort on equipment servicing and repairs, for managers who want real data on workload and job duration, and for operations that need to tie maintenance work back to projects and timesheets for costing. If your technicians currently guess their hours, forget to log them, or you simply have no time data on maintenance work at all, this is the fix. It builds on Odoo Maintenance, Project, and Employees, so it fits straight into your existing setup.
How This Module Works in Practice
Setup is minimal – no technical knowledge required; you simply set, in General Settings, the project that all timesheet entries should be recorded under, and you’re ready. Start and Stop buttons appear on both the Maintenance Work form view and the kanban view, so technicians can track time wherever they work. On the form, a timer shows the total time spent from the moment work started. Each entry gets a default description from the maintenance work, and there’s a dedicated field where the technician can type what they actually did, which becomes the timesheet description – or they can edit the entry manually. Start and stop times are captured on the timesheet for a clear picture of the job, and because only one maintenance work can run at a time, the data stays accurate. Simple to use, accurate by design, and fully connected to the rest of Odoo.
