Helpdesk Ticket Timesheet with Start / Stop – Track Support Time in One Click

Support agents are busy – and when they’re busy, logging time is the first thing that gets forgotten. This module puts a simple Start and Stop button right on every helpdesk ticket. Hit Start when you begin, Stop when you’re done, and a timesheet entry is created automatically. No more lost hours, no more end-of-day guesswork – just accurate time captured as the work happens.

What Does This Module Do?

Out of the box, Odoo Helpdesk gives you no easy way to record the time an agent spends on a ticket. This module adds exactly that: Start and Stop buttons on the ticket itself that turn time tracking into a single click. When an agent begins work they press Start, a live timer counts the time spent, and when they press Stop a timesheet entry is created automatically – capturing the start time, stop time, and duration. It cleanly links Helpdesk with Project and Timesheets, so the effort your team pours into support is finally recorded without anyone having to fill in a timesheet by hand.

Why Do You Need It?

Under a heavy workload, agents routinely forget to log their timesheets – and every unrecorded hour is lost visibility and, often, lost billing. Manual time entry is not just tedious, it is unreliable: people estimate after the fact, round inaccurately, or skip it entirely. That leaves managers without a true picture of where support time goes and makes it hard to bill customers fairly for the effort spent. This module removes the friction completely. Because tracking is just Start and Stop, agents actually do it, and the timer records real elapsed time rather than a guess. To keep the data clean, a user can only run one ticket’s timer at a time – they must stop the current one before starting another – which prevents double-counting. The result is trustworthy support-time data you can use for reporting, capacity planning, and accurate customer billing.

When Should You Use This Module?

This module is for any team running Odoo Helpdesk that needs to know how much time goes into each ticket. It is ideal for support teams that bill customers for time spent, for managers who want real data on team workload and ticket effort, and for service businesses that need to tie support work back to projects and timesheets. If your agents currently guess their hours, forget to log them, or you simply have no time data on tickets at all, this is the fix. Note that it builds on Odoo’s Helpdesk app and therefore requires the Enterprise edition, along with Project and Timesheets.

How This Module Works in Practice

Setup is minimal – no technical knowledge required; you simply set a default project on each Helpdesk Team, and you’re ready. Start and Stop buttons appear on both the ticket form view and the kanban view, so agents can track time wherever they work. On the form, a timer shows the total time spent from the moment work started. Each entry gets a default description taken from the ticket name, and there’s a dedicated field where the agent can type what they actually did, which becomes the timesheet description – or they can edit the entry manually. All timesheet entries flow into the project set for that Helpdesk Team, though this can be overridden per ticket, and a handy button on the Project form lets you jump to all the tickets related to that project. Simple to use, accurate by design, and fully connected to the rest of Odoo.
