Employee Performance Evaluation by KRA / Value Rating – Fair, Transparent Appraisals in Odoo
Evaluating staff regularly, on equal criteria, and transparently is hard – and Odoo’s own appraisal tool is now Enterprise-only and not especially friendly. This module gives you two ready-made evaluation flows: KRA (Key Result Area), where employees self-assess and managers review, and Value Rating, where managers score their team directly against predefined criteria. Define your questions once per job position, and everyone with the same role is measured the same way, with PDF reports and pivot/graph analysis built in.
What Does This Module Do?
This module adds structured employee performance evaluation to Odoo, with two flows you can use together or independently. The first is KRA (Key Result Area): HR creates KRAs for employees monthly or quarterly, each employee first evaluates themselves, submits to their manager, and the manager then does the final evaluation. The second is Value Rating, for cases where you don’t want employees to self-assess – here managers rate their team members directly against predefined criteria, with no employee or HR step involved. KRA questions are defined in reusable templates (each question carrying its own weightage, plus description and hint), and templates are attached to job positions rather than individuals, so everyone with the same designation is evaluated on identical criteria. The module also includes printable PDF reports and Odoo pivot/graph analysis so your evaluation data becomes insight, not just records.
Why Do You Need It?
Regular, fair performance evaluation matters to every organisation, but doing it well is genuinely difficult: you need consistent criteria so people in the same role are judged the same way, a transparent process employees trust, and results you can actually analyse. Odoo’s built-in appraisal module is now part of Enterprise and isn’t especially user-friendly, which leaves many teams without a good option. This module fills that gap with a clear, transparent structure. Defining criteria per job position guarantees consistency and removes the temptation to move the goalposts between individuals; the KRA self-then-manager flow gives employees a voice while keeping the manager’s final assessment authoritative; and locking records once done preserves integrity. Because it’s built on Odoo’s reporting, you also get pivot tables and graphs to spot trends across teams and periods. The result is appraisals that are fairer, less contentious, and genuinely useful for decisions.
When Should You Use This Module?
This module is for any organisation that wants to run structured, consistent staff appraisals in Odoo. It’s ideal for HR teams that need a transparent evaluation process across many employees, for companies on Odoo Community that don’t have the Enterprise appraisal tool, and for managers who want a simple, criteria-based way to score their teams. The KRA flow suits organisations that value employee self-assessment as part of the review; the Value Rating flow suits those where managers should evaluate directly. If you need every employee in a given role measured against the same criteria – and want reports and analysis out of it – this is built for that. It relies on Odoo Employees and slots into your existing HR setup.
How This Module Works in Practice
You start by defining KRA templates under Configuration, with questions, weightages, and optional descriptions and hints, then attach each template to the relevant job position – there’s no need to set it per employee, which saves HR a lot of work and keeps everyone with the same designation on the same criteria. With that done, the system is ready: HR can create KRAs one employee at a time, or use the built-in wizard to generate them for many people in seconds. In the KRA menu, employees see only their own KRA, add their self-review and rating, and submit to their manager; the manager then sees the submitted record (unable to edit the employee’s remarks or rating), adds their own rating and review, and marks it done – after which nothing can be edited. The Value Rating flow is simpler: managers fill predefined rating fields directly, with no employee or HR involvement. At any point you can print the evaluation report from a record or by selecting several in the list, and use the analysis views to build pivot tables and graphs from your evaluation data.
